A member of the Israeli judo team at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, Koaz participated in the 60-kg division (extra lightweight). After defeating Neil Eckersley of Great Britain in his preliminary bout (to qualify for the tournament), Koaz defeated Rony Sanabpia of Costa Rica on an ippon (like a knockout in boxing) in the first round, and Chin-Fu Chau of Taipei on another ippon in the second round. He reach the quarterfinals, but lost a rematch with Britain's Eckersley and officially finished in seventh place. It was one of the best performances of any Israeli athlete in the Olympics up to that time.
Koaz is currently the President of the Israel Judo Association.
