Joseph V. Benis
A quarterback at Ohio State University, Benis played in the early 1930s. He was also a member of the Jewish fraternity, ZBT (Zeta Beta Tau).
Birth and Death Dates:
Benis, who played two seasons of varsity football at Ohio State, was the starting quarterback in both 1930 and 1931. During the 1930 season, he led the team to an overall record of 5-2-1; the team finished 2-2-1 in the Big Ten and tied for fourth place in the conference standings. The following year, he was joined on the varsity by future Hall of Fame coach Sid Gillman, but unfortunately tore shoulder ligaments in practice just prior to the start of the season. Nevertheless, Benis returned to the line-up and played well as the Buckeyes finished with a record of 6-3-0 (4-2-0, fourth place in conference). That season, Benis also played as a back.
Benis played quarterback at Ohiuo State, 1930-31.
