Arbeitman, Shlomi

Shlomo Arbeitman

Arbeitman is a gifted young forward with tremendous technical ability. His dribbling, passing and scoring abilities make him a perfect second forward. On February 18, 2004, Shlomi made his international debut (at the tender age of eighteen) and scored three goals in a definitive performance against Azerbaijan.

Birth and Death Dates:
b. May 5, 1985

Career Highlights:
Arbeitman is a product of the Betar Nes Tobruk system. The club is a youth only team, aiming to grow young talent for Israeli professional teams. The youngster clearly stood out from a very young age and was snapped up by Israeli Premier League club Betar Jerusalem.

The forward mostly made up the numbers in the 2002-03 Betar Jerusalem squad. Coach Hanan Azulai sent Arbeitman in for his debut performance as a substitute against S.C Ashdod in the 87th minute, on March 3, 2003. He scored 2 goals in 6 appearances (five as a sub) as Betar finished 9th.

In the 2003-04 campaign, Shlomi blossomed into a reliable starting forward. He looked the part of Israel's most promising teenage player and was arguably Jerusalem's best performer. He scored 7 goals and passed for 2 assists in 27 appearances (6 as a substitute). The most impressive development discernible throughout the year, was Arbeitman's seamless tactical acumen and positioning. Jerusalem suffered through another substandard season as they finished ninth.

The young forward was set to lead Betar in the 2004-05 season. However a curious development led to his transfer away from the capital city. The player was still owned by Betar Nes Tobruk, who sold him to Hapoel Petah Tikva one week into the new season. Despite extreme fan unrest in Jerusalem, Arbeitman will now star for Hapoel.

The Netanya native is slated as Israel's future national team forward. Though national team coach Avraham Grant has not included him in his squad for the 2006 World Cup qualification campaign, he clearly has his eye on Shlomi. The youngster was picked against Azerbaijan in February 2004 and scored 3 goals in a 6-0 demolition. He is a regular starter in for the Israeli Olympic team.
