Girsdansky, Joseph "Gid"

A member of New York University's first basketball team in 1907, Girsdansky became the first Jewish captain for NYU in 1910. Girsdansky later became the chief of surgery at Gouvernor Hospital in New York City. His father, Max, was a founder of the Socialist Party of the United States.

Career Highlights:
In 1909, Girsdansky was a member of NYU's first undefeated team (12-0). In 1910, Gid captained the NYU team to a 12-4 record, and was named The Spalding Guide All-East honorable mention. He later played professionally under the name Joe Gordon.
