Brown, Johnny

An English bantamweight, Brown was the British champion in 1923, and the British Empire bantamweight champ from 1923-1928.

Career Highlights:
In 1923, Brown (the British bantamweight champ) travelled to the United States and fought Augie Ratner in a 20-round draw. The following year, he faced future world champ Charles "Bud" Taylor and was knocked out in the third round; the two fighters had a rematch in 1926, with Brown losing a 10-round decision. In February 1927, Johnny returned to England and fought future world champion Teddy Baldock, but was knocked out in the third round. Brown continued to fight in England and faced Baldock again in 1928 for the British bantamweight title, losing on a second-round technical knockout.
