Charles J. Freeman

Freeman attained rapid stardom playing quarterback for Princeton in 1901. After a single season, he left school to play professionally . During his year at Princeton, Freeman also played outfield on the freshman baseball team.

Career Highlights:
A Princeton freshman in 1901, Chuck started as the third-string varsity quarterback, but moved quickly up the depth chart. He was the first-string quarterback in the final three games of the season, and played well enough to receive honorable mention on Outing Magazine's All-East team.

Following the 1901 season, Freeman ran into academic problems and Woodrow Wilson, a Princeton official (and future U.S. President), refused to allow him to play during his sophomore season unless he improved his grades. Freeman chose to turn professional instead, and ditched the Ivy League to play for the Syracuse AA, where he remained for several years.
