An epee specialist, Stauch was a member of the United States fencing team at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. During the team competition, the U.S. defeated the Soviet Union in the first round, but were eliminated in the second round after losing to Denmark. Two of Stauch's teammates on the U.S. epee team were Paul Makler and Albert Wolff.
