Foldes was a member of the Hungarian fencing team at two Olympiads and competed in sabre and foil events. At the 1908 London Games, he competed exclusively in the sabre and helped the Hungarian team capture the gold medal as they defeated Germany (9-0), Italy (11-5), and Bohemia (9-7). In the individual competition, Foldes advanced to the semifinals, after finishing in the top two in his first- and second-round pools. He finished fourth in the semis and was eliminated from the competition (he officially finished in 10th place).

Foldes returned to the Olympics four years later at the 1912 Stockholm Games and again won a gold medal as a member of Hungary's sabre team. In the individual sabre competition, Foldes advanced to the final pool, and finished in eighth place overall. He also competed in the individual foil event and reached the third round before being eliminated. Among his teammates on Hungary's sabre team at both the 1908 and 1912 Olympics were Jeno Fuchs, Oszkar Gerde, and Lajos Werkner.

Career Highlights:
According to the The Complete Book of the Olympics, Foldes, one of Hungary's greatest fencers in the 1900s and 1910s, moved to the United States in 1912 and set up a clinic for the poor in Cleveland, Ohio.
