Vinokurov competed in the team sabre event for the Soviet Union in three straight Olympiads, winning three medals. At the 1968 Mexico City Games, he and his Soviet teammates captured the gold medal.

Vinsokurov returned to the Olympics at the 1972 Munich Games, where the Soviets were expected to win the gold medal again. After dispatching Italy in the qualifying round (9-7), they defeated West Germany (9-4) to advance to the finals. The Soviets then defeated Hungary, 9-7, but in their final bout, lost a rematch to Italy (5-9), and were awarded the silver medal.

Although they did not repeat as Olympic champions in 1972, Vinokurov and his Soviet team did capture the gold medal at the next Olympiad, the 1976 Montreal Games. One of Vinokurov's teammates in 1968 and 1972 was International Jewish Sports Hall of Famer Mark Rakita.

Career Highlights:
