Olympic Info:
A member of the Israeli judo team at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, Koaz participated in the 60-kg division (extra lightweight). After defeating Neil Eckersley of Great Britain in his preliminary bout (to qualify for the tournament), Koaz defeated Rony Sanabpia of Costa Rica on an ippon (like a knockout in boxing) in the first round, and Chin-Fu Chau of Taipei on another ippon in the second round. He reach the quarterfinals, but lost a rematch with Britain's Eckersley and officially finished in seventh place. It was one of the best performances of any Israeli athlete in the Olympics up to that time.
