A two-time Olympian for Israel in the 1950s, Ra'anan was the country's top diver during his career. At the 1952 Helsinki Olympics (Israel's first appearance at the Olympics), Ra'anan had Israel's top finish, placing ninth in the springboard event. He also competed in the platform event and finished 22nd in the qualifiers with 58.15 points (he did not advance to the finals).

Ra'anan returned to the Olympics four years later at the 1956 Games and finished in 22nd place in the springboard competition.

Career Highlights:
Ra'anan won a gold and silver at the 1954 Asian Games; that year, he was named Israel's Athlete of the Year. In 1956, he was the English springboard champion with 106.88 points.
