At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Ran and his brother (and partner) Nir Chantal, competed in the 470-class competition as members of the Israeli sailing team; they finished in 20th place (133.00).

Career Highlights:
In 1987, Nir and Ran won the 420-class event at the World Youth Sailing Championship. They then finished second in 1993 and third in 1995 at the World Championships. At the 1999 European Championships, they finished in 20th place, although they won the third race of the competition. In December 2001, the Chantal brothers were ranked No. 73 in the world.
