Praporschikov was a member of Australia's wrestling team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and competed in the 85-kg freestyle class. He was eliminated in the preliminary round after losing two matches and officially finished in 19th place. One of his losses was to world champion Adam Satiev of Russia; and although he was overmatched, Praporschikov held his opponent at bay for a while before losing. His coach Alex Sher said: "It is the hardest draw...He (Satiev) is the world champion. He is the top guy. Igor did very well out there, he wrestled like a hero."

Career Highlights:
At the 1997 Maccabiah Games, Praporschikov was trapped on a bridge when it collapsed, killing three members of the Australian delegation. He survived and briefly gave up wrestling, but made a comeback at the 1998 FILA Five Continents Cup, winning the silver medal. At the 2000 Oceania Wrestling Championships, Igor won the gold medal in the 85-kg freestyle class.
