At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Ronen was a member of the Israeli sailing team and competed in the men's 470 competition (two-person dinghy) with partner was Eli Zuckerman. The duo finished in 13th place with 99 points after having a good start to the competition. They finished third in the first race and in the top ten in races 2 and 3, but they steadily fell back through the tournament to finish 13th.

Elad and Zuckerman finished ninth in the men's 470 sailing competition at the 1999 World Championships. They were ranked No. 9 in the world during the 1999 season. As of December 5, 2001, Zuckerman and Ronen were ranked No. 36 in the world in the 470.
