Olympic Info:
A member of three Olympic swimming teams for Hungary, Temes won two medals during her Olympic career. She first competed at the 1948 London Games, and was a member of the Hungarian 4x100-meter freestyle relay team. In their preliminary heat, Hungary placed third (4:47.5) and advanced to the finals, where they finished fifth with a time of 4:48.5; one of Judit's teammates on the relay was legendary swimmer Eva Szekely.

Four years later, Temes returned to the Olympics at the Helsinki Games and medaled in both of her events. In her preliminary heat of the 100-meter freestyle, Judit broke the Olympic record with a time of 1:05.5 (more than a second faster than the time of the gold medal winner in the final). She then finished with the eighth fastest time in the semifinals (1:07.4, fifth in her heat), and advanced to the final. In the final race, she swam a 1:07.1 which was good enough for the bronze medal. Strangely, not a single judge picked Temes for third place, but when the judges' cards were checked against the times, they made the correct adjustment and awarded her the bronze. Temes also swam the second leg for the Hungarian 4x100 meter freestyle team that won the gold medal and broke the Olympic and world record in the final with a time of 4:24.4. She was also scheduled to swim in the 100-meter backstroke, but did not compete in the event.

Temes took the Olympic journey for a third time, competing at the 1956 Melbourne Games, as a member of Hungary's 4x100-meter freestyle team. Hungary advanced to the final after finishing second in their preliminary heat (4:28.1), but finished in seventh place in the final.

Career Highlights:
Judit was the Hungarian National champion in the 100-meter freestyle in 1949 (1:07.2), 1950 (1:06.2), and 1952 (1:07.9). At the 1954 European Championships, Judit won a gold medal as a member of the 400-meter freestyle relay team (one of her teammates was International Swimming Hall of Famer Valeria Gyenge). Temes is currently a referee for international swimming competitions.
