Geist was a member of the United States track and field team at the 1920 Antwerp Olympics and competed in the triple jump at the 1920 Olympics. He returned to the Olympics as an alternate for the American team in 1924 at the Paris Games, but did not compete.

Career Highlights:
A Brooklyn accountant by profession, Geist was one of the top triple jumpers in the United States in the 1910s and 1920s. Beginning in 1918, he captured eight straight New York AAU metropolitan titles, while also winning the 1920 junior nationals and the 1921 national championship (14.10-meters). Geist was the first member of New York's well-known 92nd Street YMHA to make an Olympic team. He also competed for the Glencoe Athletic Club, but when he made the Olympic team in 1920, Geist was competing for the YMHA.
