Mayor was a member of the United States weightlifting team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He competed in the heavyweight division and finished in 12th place.

Career Highlights:
A heavyweight lifter who tipped the scales at 227 pounds in the mid-1930s, Mayor finished second at the 1936 U.S. senior nationals (total lift, 755.5 pounds). The following year, he won the U.S. heavyweight champion with a total lift of 835 pounds and was named "America's Strongest Man."
