Olympic Info:
A member of the United States fencing team at the 1952 Helsinki Games, Treves competed in the team sabre event. The U.S. defeated Switzerland in the first round (9-2), Germany in the second round (11-5), and Poland in the semifinals (10-6). They advanced to the final round-robin competition, but lost to Hungary 13-3, Italy 12-4 (Treves did not fence against Italy), and France 8-6 (he had one victory) to finish in fourth place. Among Treves' teammates were Jewish fencers, Norman Armitage, Allan Kwartler, and George Worth.

Career Highlights:
Treves was the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) sabre champion in 1949 and 1950 while attending Rutgers (class of '50). An outstanding collegiate fencer, he went undefeated in three years of college competition. In 1953, Treves captured the World Military Sabre Championship, and the following year, he won the Italian University Sabre Championship. In 2000, Treves was elected to the Rutgers Sports Hall of Fame.
