A member of the Soviet Union track and field team at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, Naroditskiy competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The preliminaries were split into three heats, with the top three finishers in each heat qualifying for the final, and fastest fourth place finisher as the tenth finalist. The rules caused Naroditskiy to miss the final despite having the tenth fastest time in the preliminaries(8:43.0). Because he finished in fifth place in his heat, he was eliminated although his time was 2.2 seconds faster than Ernest Promfert of Great Britain (the third place finisher in the third heat).

Career Highlights:
A professional soldier in the 1960s, Naroditskiy began competing in track and field in the late 1950s and became a member of the Soviet National Team in 1962. Ranked in the top ten in the world in the steeplechase in 1961 (10th), 1963 (9th), 1964 (9th), and 1968 (3rd); he had the best time of his career that year (8:26.6), which is still one of the fastest times ever run. Naroditskiy was a Merited Master of Sport of the Soviet Union.
