A member of the United States' men's gymnastics team at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, Cohen helped the U.S. reach seventh place in the team combined exercise competition; the U.S. finished with 548.90 total points. Cohen also finished 46th in the individual all-around competition.

Career Highlights:
Steve began his outstanding gymnastics career at West Philadelphia High School. During his senior year, he placed first in the all-around competition in 32 consecutive meets and won his third straight city championship. Cohen then competed at Penn State where he won two consecutive NCAA all-around championships (1966 and 1967), as well as the Nissen Award in 1967, the honor accorded to the nation's top senior collegiate gymnast.

Steve was also a member of the U.S. team at the 1965 Maccabiah Games where he won four gold, four silver, and two bronze medals. The following year, he competed at the World Championships and finished 38th in the men's all-around while the U.S. finished sixth in the team event. Based on archived world rankings (from www.worldgymrank.com), Cohen was ranked in the top 50 in the world in men's gymnastics in the 1960s. In 1966, he reached his career high at No. 38. The following year, he was ranked No. 52 in the world and in 1968, he was No. 46.

Following his competitive athletic career, Cohen attended the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and is currently the Professor and Chairman of Dermatology at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. He was inducted into the U.S. Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1991. He is also a member of the Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame
