Azrad was a member of the Israeli swimming team at the 2000 Sydney Games, and competed in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay. In their preliminary heat, the Israeli team broke the national record (3:22.06), but did not advance to the finals; they finished 14th overall.

Career Highlights:
After becoming one of Israel's top young swimmers, Azrad arrived at the University of Alabama in January 1998, for the spring semester. As a freshman that season, he finished in tenth place in the 200-meter freestyle at the SEC (Southeast Conference) Championships; he also had Alabama's second fastest 50-meter and 200-meter freestyle times of the season.

In 1998-99, Azrad clocked the fifth fastest 200-meter backstroke time in Alabama history (1:48.26). He was named Academic All-SEC and competed for Israel in the World University Games, finishing 16th in the 50-meter freestyle.

In 1999-00, Azrad was named Academic All-SEC and All-America honorable mention as a member of the Crimson Tide's 800-meter freestyle relay team that finished ninth at the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Championship. At the 2000 U.S. Open, Oren helped Alabama finish in third place (behind Auburn and Florida). It was the Crimson Tide's best finish since 1994. Azrad swam the lead leg of the winning 400-meter freestyle relay team.

During the 2000-01 season, Azrad's senior year, Oren was one of Alabama's most consistent competitors. He finished the year as the Tide's fastest swimmer in the 50-meter, 100-meter, and 200-meter freestyle events. Prior to the 2003-04 season, Azrad was still in the top ten in Alabama history in the 50-meter freestyle (eighth -- 20.3), 100-meter freestyle (sixth -- 43.97), 200-meter freestyle (seventh -- 1:36.34), 100-meter backstroke (third -- 48.92), and the 200-meter backstroke (seventh 00 1:48.26).
