Bello was a member of the Israeli soccer team team that reached the quarterfinals and finished fifth at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. A defender, Menachem played all 4 games for the Israelis. In the preliminary round, they defeated Ghana (5-3) and El Salvador (3-1), before falling to Hungary, 2-0. Israel advanced to the quarterfinals and played Bulgaria to a 1-1 tie. On a coin toss, however, it was the Bulgarians, not the Israelis, who advanced to the semifinals (Bulgaria eventually won the silver medal).
