At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, Talbi was a member of the Israeli soccer team that reached the quarterfinals and finished fifth. A midfielder, he played in 2 of Israel's 4 games in the tournament, but did score a goal. In the first two preliminary games, Talbi was in the starting 11. Israel defeated Ghana (5-3) and El Salvador (3-1) with Talbi scoring the first goal for Israel in that match. Talbi did not appear in the tournament after the El Salvador victory and Israel lost to Hungary (2-0) in their final preliminary game. Israel finished in second place in the group, though, and advanced to the quarterfinals. The match against Bulgaria ended in a 1-1 draw, and to determine which team would advance to the semifinals, there was a coin toss, which the Bulgarians won. The Israeli team was thus eliminated from further competition and the Buglarians went on to take the silver medal.

Talbi was a member of the Israeli national soccer team in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He played one game in the 1970 World Cup, the only time in the Israel's history that they advanced to the final stage. In their group, Israel lost to Uruguay (2-0), tied Sweden (1-1), and tied Italy (0-0), but did not advance past the preliminary group. Talbi started against Uruguay, but was substituted for during the game.
