Olympic Info:
A two-time member of Hungary's Olympic canoeing team, Hesz won two medals in the 1960s. His first appearance in Olympic competition took place at the 1964 Tokyo Games. Hesz reached the final of the K1 1000-meter after finishing second in both his preliminary and semifinal heats. In the final, he placed second with a time of 3:57.28, just 0.15 seconds behind the gold medalist.

Hesz returned to the Mexico City Olympics four years later, and again competed in the K1 1000-meter event. This time, Hesz won the gold medal with a time of 4:02.63, 0.95 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Career Highlights:
One of the best kayakers in the world in the 1960s and early 1970s, Hesz won the bronze medal in the K1 500-meter at the 1971 World Championships.
