Olympic Info:
A three-time Olympian for the Hungarian boxing team, Gedo had his most successful Olympic result at the 1972 Munich Games, the first in which he competed. As a light-flyweight in Munich, he defeated a Thai opponent in his first bout (his opponent gave up in the third-round), Dennis Talbot of Australia in his second fight, and Vladimir Ivanov in the quarterfinals. Gedo then defeated Ralph Evans of Great Britain in the semifinals and Gil Kim of North Korea in the final to capture the gold medal; he defeated Kim on a 5-0 decision.

Gedo returned to the Olympic Games in 1976 (Montreal) and again competed in the light-flyweight division. He won his first two bouts -- over Salid Baskiri of Iran (knockout), and Serdamba Batsukh of Mongolia (5-0 decision) -- but then lost a decision to Payao Pooltarat of Thailand in the quarterfinals and was eliminated from the competition (Pooltarat won the bronze medal).

Gedo competed in the light-flyweight division once more, at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. He knocked out Charles Lubulwa of Uganda in his first bout (1:47 into the first round), and reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated from the competition. Shamil Sabyrov of the Soviet Union won the gold medal in the division.

Career Highlights:
A light-flyweight in the 1960s and 1970s, Gedo won the gold medal at the European amateur championships in 1969 and 1971. He also captured the bronze medal in 1975.
