Olympic Info:
A member of Kazakhstan's track and field team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Zalevskaya competed in the women's high jump. After finishing tied for first in her preliminary group (1.94-meters), she advanced to the finals and just missed medaling. Zalevskaya tied for fourth place in the high jump with a height of 1.96-meters (6'5"), just 0.03-meters less than the bronze medalist.

Career Highlights:
Since the early 1990s, Zalevskaya has steadily become one of the best female high jumpers in the world. After finishing second at the 1992 World Junior Championships, she placed a respectable 11th at the 1993 World Championships. Two years later, she finished third in the Indoor Championships and eighth at the World Championships (she also finished eighth at the 1999 Worlds). In 1996, Svetlana achieved her personal best with a jump of 1.97-meters. Zalevskaya then finished in eighth place in the high jump at the 1999 World Championships, and 12th in the high jump at the 2001 Worlds.
