Olympic Info:
A member of the Argentinean tennis team at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, Jaite was seeded No. 13 in the men's singles event. He defeated Chris Pridham in straight sets (6-1, 6-3, 6-2) in the first round and then defeated fellow Argentinian Javier Frana in the second round (6-2, 6-4, 6-2). Jaite continued playing well in his next match and defeated Bong-Soo Kim (6-4, 6-1, 6-3) to win his third straight match without losing a set. In the quarterfinals, however, Jaite faced fellow Jew, American Brad Gilbert, the No. 5 seed. Their match went four sets with Jaite on the losing end (7-5, 1-6, 6-7, 3-6); Gilbert went on to win the bronze medal.

Career Highlights:
Jaite joined the ATP tour in 1983, and quickly rose in the world rankings (from 826 in 1982 to 156 by the end of 1983). By 1984, he was ranked 54th in the world, and won his first tour victory in 1985 (that year Jaite was ranked 20th in the world). Martin also reached the quarterfinals at the French Open that year. In 1986, Jaite rose to No. 15, and defeated Boris Becker at the Tournament of Champions. On January 9, 1990, he was ranked #10 in the world, becoming only the 6th South American to rank in the top 10 since the ATP computer rankings began in August, 1973. Jaite retired with 12 career ATP titles.
