An outstanding breaststroke swimmer for Canada, Rabinovitch competed in two events at the 1960 Rome Olympics. In the 200-meter individual breaststroke, Steve finished fifth in his preliminary heat with a time of 2:47.2 and did not advance to the final. Rabinovitch was also a member of the Canadian 4x100-meter medley relay team that finished second in their preliminary heat with a time of 4:15.3. In the final, the Canadians finished in fourth place with a time of 4:16.8 (4.6 seconds behind third place Japan).

Career Highlights:
At the 1962 Empire and Commonwealth Games, Rabinovitch won bronze medals in the 110-yard breaststroke and in the 4x110-yard medley relay.
