Meron was a member of Israel's freestyle wrestling team at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Competing in the lightweight division, he defeated Ronald Joseph of the Virgin Islands in his first bout, and Lennart Lundell of Sweden in the second round. Meron then lost to Janos Kocsis of Hungary and was eliminated from the competition. Rami officially finished in seventh place, which, at the time, was one of the best results in Israeli Olympic history.

Career Highlights:
One of Israel's best wrestlers in the 1970s, Meron finished sixth in the World Youth Championships, and seventh in the World Championships in 1975 (he was a lightweight at both competitions). Two years later, he finished in fourth place at the World Championships. From 1975-1979, he was Israel's most outstanding wrestler.
