Laskin was a member of the Canadian Olympic equestrian team in 1980, but did not compete in the Moscow Olympics because Canada joined the U.S. boycott of the Games, following the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan. Only six countries competed in the equestrian events at the official Games. Instead, Laskin and his Canadian teammates competed in the "alternate" Olympics held in Rotterdam (Netherlands), and captured the gold medal in the team show jumping competition.

Career Highlights:
One of Canada's best show jumpers since the 1970s, Laskin has won 42 Grand Prix and Derby events, was named Canada's Equestrian of the Year four times, and was the North American show jumping champion in 1992. As of May 2003, Laskin continued to compete and was also an equestrian coach.
