Stupp, a Greco-Roman wrestler, was a member of the Canadian Olympic team in 1976 and 1980. Canada boycotted the the 1980 Games in Moscow to protest Russia's invasion of Afghanistan.

Career Highlights:
Stupp began his wrestling career at the YMHA in Montreal. A three-time Canadian junior champion, he later won five Canadian Senior championships in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Stupp also attended McGill University, where he was a two-time CIAU (Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union) All-Canadian wrestler. In 1978, he won the gold medal in the 72-kg class and was named the CIAU tournament MVP. Stupp also won the gold medal at the 1981 CIAU Championships.

A gold medalist at the 1973 and 1981 Maccabiah Games, Stupp also won the Pan American Games gold medal in 1975 and 1979. At the 1975 Games, a last-minute change of dates allowed him to compete because there was no conflict with the world junior championships. He captured the gold in the 62-kg Greco-Roman competition that year and then another gold medal in the 68-kg Greco-Roman event four years later. Stupp is a member of the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association Hall of Fame and the McGill Athletics Hall of Fame. He received his law degree from McGill in 1983 and became the Director of Legal Affairs for the IOC the following year.
