Zinn, Guy

Guy Zinn

Guy had a 5-year career in the 1910's as a solid journeyman outfielder for three major league teams in different leagues: the New York Yankees (American), the Boston Braves (National), and the Baltimore Terrapins (Federal). Zinn compiled a career batting average of .269.

Birth and Death Dates:
b. February 13, 1887 - d. October 6, 1949

Career Highlights:
Zinn first appeared in the majors with the New York Yankees in 1911, although he played in only 9 games that year. The following season, he committed half of his 40 career errors -- but that same year, he also hit 15 doubles, 10 triples, drew 55 walks and swiped 17 bases while batting .262. In a game against the Detroit Tigers, Guy tied a Major League record by stealing home twice in one game, a record he still shares. He also tied the franchise record by hitting 6 home runs for the Yankees (then called the Highlanders), which was the fourth most in the league.

In 1913, Zinn moved to the Boston Braves of the National League and hit a career-high .297. He also showed more power, compiling a slugging average of .406 (he slugged over .400 twice, and two other seasons achieved a slugging mark of .394). Zinn then jumped leagues again, this time to the Federal League in 1914. He played for the Baltimore Terrapins, but a broken leg during the season caused him to miss most of the year. He played one more season of baseball, hitting .269 for Baltimore in 1915 before retiring.
