Greenberg, Steve

Steven Greenberg

Though he never played in the major leagues, Hank Greenberg's son played five years in the minors for the Washington Senators and Texas Rangers organizations. The last three were with Spokane of the Pacific Coast League, in Triple A, as close as you can get to the big leagues without being in them. Following his active career, Steve, a Yale alumnus, received a law degree from U.C.L.A. After working for 13 years in sports and business law; he became Deputy Commissioner of Baseball, and Chief Operating Officer, under MLB Commissioner Fay Vincent. In 1998, Steve co-founded the Classic Sports Network, now part of ESPN television. Currently, he is Chairman of Fuscient Media Ventures, a new company whose content is specifically intended for the Internet.

Career Highlights:
In his last two seasons with Spokane -- 1973-74 -- Steve hit a solid .281 and .282, with 134 RBI over the two seasons. In '74, he also scored 98 runs, with 20 doubles (he hit 26 in '73) and 12 home runs (he had slugged 8 the previous season, and added 5 triples).
