After graduating Auburn University in 1960, Koch, a big right-hander, played for the Detroit Tigers in 1963-64, and for the Washington Senators in 1964.

Career Highlights:
Born in Alabama, Koch was an excellent pitcher for the University of Auburn. In 1960, he led the team in wins (seven), ERA (3.00), strikeouts (88), and innings pitched (81.0). He spent the next three years in the minors pitching for Birmingham, Denver, and Syracuse. Koch had a 11-2 record with Syracuse in 1963 when he was called up to the majors by the Detroit Tigers. He appeared in seven games that year and went 1-1.

In 1964, Koch began the season with the Tigers and appeared in three games before being traded to the Washington Senators. He pitched in 32 games for the Senators that year and finished 3-10. After the 1964 season, Koch did not pitch again in the majors. His lifetime pitching record is 4-11, but he could hit; his career batting average is a remarkable (for a pitcher) .286. After retiring, Koch became an attorney in Mobile, Alabama.
