Nisenson, Steve

In 1964, Steve established a national collegiate free-throw record with 207 made in 226 attempts. His .916 percentage marked the first time in college basketball history that a player exceeded .900 from the foul line. He still holds the highest career free throw percentage in Division II basketball history (minimum 500 made) with 87.9% (602 of 685). In March, 2002, Nisenson was inducted into the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, located in Commack, New York.

Career Highlights:
Nisenson was an excellent shooter for Hofstra in the mid-1960s. After helping to lead the Flying Dutchmen to a record of 23-7 in 1963, Steve was selected UPI Small College All-America first team, and AP Small College All-America third team in 1964 as Hofstra finished 23-6. Although the squad struggled during the 1965 season with a record of 11-14, Nisenson finished his career at Hofstra as the school all-time leading scorer with 2,222 points (a record he still holds). He was drafted in the 5th round (40th overall) of the 1965 NBA draft by the New York Knicks, but did not play in the NBA.
