Herbert Bonn

Bonn was a member of the Duquesne Univerisity Sports Hall of Fame, and an All-America player in the mid-1930s. The second All-America in school history, Bonn served as an ensign in the U.S. Naval Aviation Corps during World War II.

Career Highlights:
Bonn was a great college player at Duquesne University (located in Pittsburgh) in the mid-1930s. In 1935, he helped lead the Dukes to a record of 18-1; at the time, they were considered one of the top ten teams in the country. Their only loss that season was to Pitt, another national power, by a squeaker of 35-34. In 1936, Bonn was named College Humor first team All-America and Duquense had another splendid season with a record of 14-3. One of his teammates in 1935 and 1936 was 6'6" center Ed Kweller.

After graduating, Bonn played two seasons of professional basketball in the NBL with the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1937-38, the first year of the league's existence (it was formed by industrial companies), Bonn appeared in eight games and scored 58 points as the Pirates finished 8-5 and in third place in the Eastern Division. The following year, the Pirates went 13-14 and finished last in the division - Bonn played in seven games and scored 28 points. Kweller was a teammates on the Pirates both seasons.

Bonn played guard at Duquesne from 1934-1936. He then played in the NBL for the Pittsburgh Pirates, 1937-1939.
