Cohen, Herb : Jews In Sports @ Virtual Museum

Cohen, Herb

Cohen was a member of the 1950 CCNY (City College of New York) basketball team that was the only team in history to win both the NIT and NCAA tournaments in the same season. Along the way, City defeated the No. 12, No.6, No. 5, No. 3, No.2, and No. 1 teams in the country. After No. 5 Kentucky lost to CCNY in a 89-50 rout in the NCAA tournament, the Kentucky state legislature passed a resolution calling for the capitol building's flag to be flown at half mast. CCNY's victory in both of the title games was especially sweet, since they defeated top-ranked Bradley to capture the NIT and NCAA crowns.
