Sharf, Max

Sharf played basketball at Long Island University in the late 1930s and early 1940s, and was a member of LIU's undefeated National Championship team in 1939. He played professionally in the American Basketball League after graduating.

Career Highlights:
In 1939, Sharf was a member of the LIU team that went undefeated in the regular season (21-0).) In the NIT, the Blackbirds defeated New Mexico A&M; and Bradley to set up a match-up of undefeated teams in the final game. LIU defeated Loyola (Ill.) 44-32 to capture the NIT and national championship. Although Max played in all three games, he did not score in the tournament. In 1940, Sharf was a member of the Blackbirds' 19-3 team that returned to the NIT, but lost to DePaul, 45-38, in the first round.
