Leibowitz played professionally in the ABA (American Basketball Association) in 1967-68, its inaugural season. During the year, he was traded twice and played for three teams in the first four months of the season. Known as the league's most traded player, Leibowitz decided against playing for a fourth team at the start of the 1968-69 season and signed to play in Israel instead. He is a member of the LIU (Long Island University) Athletic Hall of Fame

Two months later, Leibowitz was traded again, this time to the Oakland Oaks, with whom he finished out the year. Barry's original team, Pittsburgh, won the first ABA Championship, whereas the Oaks ended the 1967-68 season with a league-worst 22-56 mark.
