David Dabrow

Dabrow played for the Philadelphia Sphas (the nickname stood for the South Philadelphia Hebrew Association) before becoming a coach. He is a member of the Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.

Career Highlights:
Born in South Philadelphia, a hotbed of basketball, Dabrow played for the Philadelphia Sphas before turning to coaching. Dave led South High School to the City title in 1945 and 1946 while coaching against Jewish legends Menchy Goldblatt (Bartram) and Sam Cozen (Overbrook).

While a coach (a position he held for 40 years), Dabrow also refereed games and was active in the Jewish community. He served as president of the Jewish Basketball League and helped found the Jewish Basketball League Alumni. Later in his life, he also worked with the South Philadelphia High School Alumni Association.
