Gordon was an All-Ivy League honorable mention selection in 1971. That year, while playing for Columbia University, Larry was the conference's fourth leading scorer.

Career Highlights:
Gordon had been a high school teammate of All-Ivy League player Steve Bilsky. While Bilsky went off to play for the University of Pennsylvania, Gordon went to Columbia. In 1969-70, Columbia's Lions finished in second place in the Ivy League with a 11-3 record (20-5 overall). At one point in the season, they were ranked No. 13 in the country.

The following year, Gordon finished fourth in the Ivy League in scoring with 19.5 points per game and was named All-Ivy League honorable mention. Columbia finished the season in third place with a 9-5 mark (16-8 overall).
