Jerome Domerschick

A member of the CCNY (City College of New York) Athletic Hall of Fame, Domerschick was the only three-time basketball captain in school history (1952, 1953, and 1954).

Birth and Death Dates:
unknown

Career Highlights:
Domershick joined the basketball team at City College two years after the Beavers were the first (and only) team in history to win both the NIT and NCAA in the same season. In 1951, seven of City's players from the 1949-50 team were arrested for their involvment in a point-shaving scandal that rocked college basketball. Schools such as Kentucky, and Bradley had players involved, but the aftershock was felt most among the New York City schools. CCNY began to de-emphasize the basketball program over the next decade and even fired Hall of Fame Nat Holman for a brief period in the 1950s.

Despite the setbacks, CCNY remained a respectable program during Domershick's career. The school's only three-time captain (1952, 1953, and 1954), Jerry led the Beavers to a record 8-11 as a sophomore in 1951-52. He led the team in scoring with 15 points per game, had a shooting percentage of 46.3, and was named All-Metropolitan honorable mention.

The following year, the Beavers improved to 10-6, but lost the season finale to rival NYU (New York University), 82-68. Domerschick scored a game-high 27 points in the game. In 1953-54, his senior season, Domerschick captained City College for the third consecutive season and led the team to a record of 10-8. After playing at CCNY, Domershick was selected in the 11th round (91st overall) in the 1954 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Hawks; he did not play in the NBA.
