Freiberger, I.F.

Isadore Fred Freiberger

Freiberger, who served as Chairman of the Board of the Cleveland Trust Company for over 20 years, helped pioneer interest in basketball at both the club and college levels in the Cleveland area. He said: "Prior to entering Western Reserve U., from which I graduated in 1901, I was a member of the boys' club at Goodrich Social Settlement, where I played on the Lincoln basketball team. During my college career I played football, baseball, and basketball, but basketball was not a recognized sports activity. I was instrumental in organizing the basketball team at Western Reserve from members of my class and acted as manager. I arranged schedules with other college teams and with non-college teams, including the YMCA and the Franklin A.C. teams in Cleveland, and with the Buffalo Germans [one of only four teams inducted in the Basketball Hall of Fame] and the Kenton, Ohio Armory team, among others."
