Gordon, who was known as the "Greenwich Village Sensation," fought Charles "Bud" Taylor (future bantamweight champ) twice in 1923, with both bouts ending in 10-round no decisions. Two years later, Gordon fought another top bantamweight, Charley Phil Rosenberg, twice in the span of three months. On February 22, the two Jewish fighters squared off in New York with Rosenberg winning a 10-round decison. On May 22, the two fighters had a rematch in Kentucky; two months after Rosenberg became world champion in March. The rematch was a non-title fight and ended in a 10-round no decision. Also in 1923, Gordon defeated Carl Tremaine in a 12-round decision.
