Rossman, a light-heavyweight world champion in the late 1970s, marketed himself as a Jewish boxer and fought with a Magen David on his trunks; but while his mother was Jewish, his father was Italian, and Mike was raised as a Catholic (Jewish Sports Review, May/June 2001 issue).

Career Highlights:
After turning professional as a light heavyweight in 1973, Rossman fought 42 times before getting a title shot. In September 1978, he defeated Victor Galindez on a 13th-round technical knockout for the WBA world light-heavyweight title. He successfully defended his crown in December 1978 against Aldo Traversaro with a sixth-round technical knockout. Rossman lost the title, however, when he was knocked out in the 10th-round in a rematch with Galindez in April 1979. He fought nine more times over the next 4 years before retiring in 1983. He finished his career with a record of 44 wins (27 knockouts), 7 losses, and 3 draws.
