Abraham Hollandersky

The Newsboy is credited with fighting more bouts than any other boxer in history.

Birth and Death Dates:
b. December 3, 1887 - d. November 1966

Career Highlights:
Between 1905-1918, Hollandersky fought an incredible 1,309 times, with most of the fights aboard ships and listed as exhibitions. He fought out of New London, Connecticut, where he sold newspapers, mostly to men stationed aboard Naval ships in the port (hence his colorful nickname). The Newsboy credited himself with winning the heavyweight championships of Panama and South Africa, and claimed the world's welterweight wrestling title in 1907 (he wrestled in 387 career matches, as well). When he retired, he wrote an autobiography entitled The Life Story of Abe, The Newsboy.
