Wilshur began his career as a bantamweight in the early 1920s and fought future world champion Charley Phil Rosenberg in December 1922 and handed him a six-round loss. The following year, he defeated Joey Fox, the British bantamweight and featherweight, during a bout in Toronto. In 1925, Wilshur fought featherweight contender Danny Kramer and lost a ten-round decision.
