Career Highlights:
A lightweight in the 1940s, Bort began boxing because as a boy, he had polio -- which prevented him from being able to play baseball, his real sports love. In one of his earliest professional fights, Bort knocked out Jimmy Cogman in the fifth round of their December 1945 bout. Two years later, he faced former featherweight contender Lulu Constantino and lost an eight-round decision. Bort continued to fight until 1950; he retired with 59 wins in 70 career decisions.
