An outstanding club fighter in the 1930s, Gellman earned a Master's and Ph.D. He became President of the Long Island Jewish Memorial Hospital in New York, where many boxers were treated, including Hall of Famer Mickey Walker. Charlie also serves as Chairman of the Board of Veteran Boxing Association's Ring 8.
