Rice turned professional in 1918 and fought as a featherweight. In 1922, Frankie fought Hall of Famer Johnny Dundee and lost a 12-round decision to the junior lightweight champion (it was a non-title fight). The following year, Rice took on contender George "K.O." Chaney, who knocked him out in the first round. Frankie continued to fight until 1924; he retired with 54 career wins.
